FAQ

What is 3D Life Casting?

3D Life Casting, or Casting, is when an impression is taken of a baby's foot, for example, and then made to be an exact replica. This is achieved by firstly using a jelly like solution to make the mould and then using stone plaster to create the replica.

Are the materials safe to use?

Absolutely! The jelly solution (Alginate) is 100% safe, biodegradable and comes from seaweed, even dentists use it. However, no guarantees can be made for allergic reactions. If you have sensitive skin and are prone to reactions, you can have a spot test just to be sure. NOTE: We never use plaster on your skin. The plaster is only used to fill the alginate mould and will be done away from you or your child.

What is the minimum age for a baby to do a casting?

We can do baby castings within a week of your new little arrival being born.

How long does a casting take?

This varies on the size of the casting. The Alginate moulding mix can take only a few short minutes to set before you can remove hands or feet, larger castings will involve a slightly different process and will take slightly longer. All in all, cast sittings can be between 25-45 minutes. We will let you know the expected duration at the time of confirming your casting.

How do I get out of the mould?

Once the moulding mix has set, all we do is simply slide the hands or feet out gently. If you are wearing jewellery, a little extra care is needed in order to keep the mould scratch free.

What if my baby moves during the casting?

We can try a few methods to relax your baby before we take the cast such have relaxing music on and have a bottle ready for when the casting is about to begin. If your baby wiggles a little then that is fine as it can help to disperse some air bubbles. If the casting is unsuccessful, then another one can be taken free of charge.

What finishes can I chose from?

We have a variety of metallic like finishes such as Bronze, Silver & Gold, or you can opt to keep your cast white. All are equally beautiful. We have various framing/displaying options to chose from and will be happy to try and accommodate you if you would like something more bespoke. Please see pricing for your options.

When will I receive my finished cast?

It can take up to 3-4 weeks for the stone to dry, during this time we will work on your cast to make sure that every little detail is perfect. Once the cast has dried, we can then go ahead and finish off with the metal finishes, mounting or framing. All together we expect your cast to be back with you within 6-8 weeks. We will notify you when your cast is ready for collection.

How do I pay?

We accept payment by cash, credit and debit card and PayPal. Full payment is taken at the time of your casting appointment and a sales invoice will be sent to you to confirm your purchase.

What if I am not happy with my casting?

No problem at all. We should be able to tell fairly quickly if the casting has been unsuccessful and we will do another one free of charge, right there and then. If you are unhappy with your finished cast, please let us know as soon as possible so we can help. We want you to be 100% happy with our service and your casting.
